The Lakes District Arts Council loved Valdy and Nadina’s concert last night
in Burns Lake; don't miss it in Smithers. Here's Sandra and John Barth's
review of the show:

"What exactly do an old folk singer and a classically trained bassoonist
actually do? You might well ask. The answer is only partly captured in the
concert’s title: “Folk to Baroque”. There is folk music to be sure,
including a generous helping of all the Valdy classics - and there is
baroque music. The evening also features music written by Karel and for
Nadina. There is pop music, jazz, a tango, a 60’s rock anthem, the '20’s
sly and sassy ‘Makin’ Whoopee’, a Leonard Cohen song and a full Vivaldi
concerto. And yes, Valdy does accompany Nadina and Karel in the Vivaldi,
playing bass guitar at a pace he says ‘Feels like being shot at!' Valdy
tells stories with the skill and humour of a born raconteur, and Nadina
shares insights about her classical training, about learning to improvise
like a jazz player - and about her love for and connections with northern
BC. The members of the trio individually and collectively are warm,
generous and engaging performers. They entertained and delighted an
audience that I think may have been a bit surprised at how much they
enjoyed the whole evening.

Together with pianist Karel Roessingh, Valdy & Nadina created an evening of
musical wizardry that warms the heart and soul. This is one of those
concerts you don’t want to miss. Run - don’t walk - to get your tickets to
Valdy and Nadina Mackie Jackson."
