Hi Everyone,

As you may have heard there is a referendum on Electoral Reform in the upcoming May 12th provincial election. The system being proposed to replace our current system is BC - Single Transferable Vote. Many people I have talked to are not 100% clear on what the system is or how it works. In order to help you make an informed decision there will be an information session on Sunday May 3rd, 1:30pm at the Old Church.

Bruce Hallsor will be coming to speak on the topic. Bruce is the National VP for Fair Vote Canada and made recommendations to the Citizens Assembly on Electoral Reform on the different voting systems in use around the world and the options available to BC. We are very lucky to have such an informed individual available to speak in Smithers. Aside from his role in Fair Vote Canada, Bruce has been appointed by the Provincial Government to
serve on the Provincial Child Care Council, and the City of Victoria
Board of Variance. He is a former member of the B.C. Chief Electoral Officer's
Advisory Committee, and he has a long history of political involvement
including standing for election to Parliament in the 2000 federal
election. Bruce is also on the Board of Workstreams, a non-profit
society that trains chronically unemployed people and assists them
with job placement. Bruce has also been a cub leader, chair of two
strata corporations, and a director of a summer camp for underprivileged
youth.

Bruce will do a presentation and then there will be a Q & A session.

I have attached a pdf that explains the main points of BC-STV for those of you who are unable to attend.
